California Bar membership, 2+ years litigation or housing advocacy experience, Commitment to social justice, Strong courtroom skills, Reside within 75 miles of office
About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide legal representation to low-income tenants and homeowners in eviction defense, affordable housing preservation, and mortgage fraud
- Conduct community education and outreach
- Staff clinics at sites accessible to consumers
- Provide technical assistance and training to community and public agencies
- Represent the organization at community, legal, and funding meetings
Requirements
- Member in good standing of the California Bar (provisional candidates considered)
- Minimum of two years of litigation or housing advocacy experience in low-income communities
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and underserved communities of color
- Strong advocacy and courtroom skills representing LEP clients
- Ability to work independently and in a multicultural team environment
- Residence within 75 miles of API Legal Outreach office
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual/bicultural skills (Spanish, Cantonese, or other API language)
- Experience serving tenants facing eviction
- Working knowledge of Legal Server and Essential Forms
