Staff Accountant

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual periodic closings and reconciliations
• Record required journal entries and perform reconciliations of various cash accounts
• Assist in the University’s budget process and act as a liaison for departmental budget management
• Track and maintain grant records, including activity recording, reporting, and drawdowns
• Maintain project records for construction activities and fixed asset records for additions and depreciation
• Lead the management of university P-card monitoring and reconciliations
• Process departmental cost allocations for telephone, postage, and copies
• Assist with the annual audit, Form 990 tax return, and various financial reporting needs
• Coordinate with the Student Accounts Office to ensure accurate recording of cash and receivable transactions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Up to three years of experience in an accounting or finance-related position
• Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Proficiency in accounting information systems and spreadsheet software
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial individuals
