About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee the compliant disposal of prescription medications, compounded preparations, and pharmaceutical waste in accordance with 503A, DEA, and state regulations.
- Manage customer returns by providing pharmacist oversight for return-to-sender shipments and establishing SOPs for quarantine and destruction.
- Develop, review, and maintain policies, SOPs, and training materials related to disposals, returns, and waste handling.
- Conduct routine audits and risk assessments to ensure inspection readiness for Board of Pharmacy and DEA audits.
- Partner with Pharmacy Operations, Quality, and Compliance teams to mitigate risk and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor inventory cycle counts to identify trends related to shrinkage, discrepancies, or diversion risks.
- Oversee R&D inventory activities, including API use, labeling, and disposal, ensuring accurate and compliant record-keeping.
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
- Active, unrestricted Pharmacist License in the State of Ohio (OH).
- 5–7+ years of pharmaceutical inventory management experience.
- Strong working knowledge of 503A regulations, DEA requirements, and state Board of Pharmacy rules.
- Proven experience with pharmaceutical waste handling, medication disposal, and/or returns oversight.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into operational workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of pharmaceutical inventory management experience.
- Experience in mail-order, compounding, or high-volume pharmacy operations.
- Familiarity with controlled substance destruction processes and vendor management.
- Prior experience supporting regulatory inspections and compliance audits.
- Strong SOP writing and data analytics skills.
