About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced, long-term research initiatives focused on IT rack design, emphasizing material innovation, structural integrity, and thermal efficiency
  • Conduct blue-sky research on next-generation rack materials and structural designs to address future performance and sustainability requirements
  • Develop prototypes, models, and simulations to validate new ideas and support technology feasibility studies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product development, engineering, and infrastructure teams
  • Explore innovative approaches to rack design incorporating advanced materials, weight reduction, and environmental sustainability
  • Publish technical papers, file patents, and present findings to internal and external audiences
  • Identify and collaborate with external research institutions, industry partners, and academic organizations
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, material science, or advanced research
  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Expertise in material science applied to mechanical design, including advanced materials or composites
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation tools
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and validate transformative mechanical design ideas
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with a track record of research or patents
  • Ability to work in an office and electrical lab environment
  • Comfort performing or guiding experiments in an electronics lab

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of thermal management principles applied to rack design
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in physical infrastructure systems, such as modular designs
  • Experience in long-term research focused on sustainability and future technology applications
