Sr. Manager of Research & Development

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D innovation and formulation initiatives across dietary supplements, functional foods, protein bars, chocolate products, and personal care products.
• Manage the product development team, guiding projects from concept through commercialization, including prototyping, pilot production, and scale-up.
• Evaluate ingredients, technologies, and delivery systems using scientific evidence to substantiate product efficacy and health claims.
• Develop and formulate new meal replacement bars, nutrition bars, and chocolate products.
• Resolve technical issues related to raw materials, formulations, and manufacturing processes.
• Set long-term R&D roadmaps aligned with business growth and communicate project status and emerging science to senior leadership.
• Implement R&D best practices, including lab operations, documentation standards, and process optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biochemistry, or Cosmetic Science (7+ years experience); Master’s degree (5+ years experience); or PhD (3+ years experience).
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience managing R&D or formulation teams in the nutraceutical, functional food, or personal care industries.
• Hands-on formulation experience with nutrition/protein bars and chocolate products.
• Strong understanding of FDA, FTC, DSHEA, and labeling regulations.
• Proven experience in research evaluation, ingredient assessment, and claims substantiation.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts for various audiences.
