Sr. Manager of Research & Development

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D innovation and formulation initiatives across dietary supplements, functional foods, protein bars, chocolate products, and wellness-focused personal care products
• Manage product development team and guide projects from concept through commercialization, including formulation, prototyping, and scale-up
• Evaluate ingredients, technologies, and delivery systems using scientific evidence to substantiate product efficacy
• Integrate inventory-driven formulations to optimize raw material usage
• Resolve issues related to raw materials, formulations, and manufacturing processes
• Communicate emerging science, project status, and risks to senior leadership
• Implement R&D best practices, including lab operations, documentation standards, and experimental design
• Set long-term R&D and innovation roadmaps aligned with business growth
• Monitor market trends, competitor products, and emerging science

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field with 7+ years of experience (or Master’s with 5+ years, or PhD with 3+ years)
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience managing R&D or scientific teams in nutraceutical, functional food, or personal care industries
• Hands-on formulation experience with nutrition bars, chocolate, and functional snacks
• Strong understanding of FDA, FTC, DSHEA, and labeling regulations
• Experience with research evaluation, literature review, and claims substantiation
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple competing tasks
