Sr. Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a team of talented engineers and senior individual contributors focused on Apache Ozone and Apache HDFS.
• Develop and execute technical roadmaps and strategies that align with departmental vision and business goals.
• Mentor software engineers, including senior and principal-level contributors, to foster technical excellence.
• Partner with product managers and engineering leaders to develop solid designs and facilitate integration.
• Drive best practices for the software development lifecycle, including coding standards, testing, scalability, and security.
• Oversee team resources, staffing, and professional development to maintain a best-of-class engineering team.
• Guide the team in contributing to the Apache open-source community.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role.
• Demonstrable expertise in the design, implementation, and operation of large-scale distributed systems (storage, file systems, or cloud infrastructure).
• Strong understanding of fundamental storage concepts such as consistency, replication, erasure coding, and caching.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience contributing to or leading large-scale open-source projects.
• Familiarity with the Apache Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, YARN, Hive, Impala, Spark).
• Experience with distributed storage technologies such as Ceph, Gluster, ZFS, or S3-compatible systems.
• Experience managing remote or hybrid engineering teams.
