About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a material expert regarding material properties and their impact on products and processes
  • Drive root cause understanding of technical challenges to improve yield, extend asset life, and reduce costs
  • Develop laboratory testing regimens and process simulations to support or disprove hypotheses
  • Work with laboratory staff to ensure optimal turnaround time and experimental efficiency
  • Collaborate with external suppliers to identify the best material solutions for project applications
  • Share technical findings with colleagues and senior leadership to enable data-based decision making
  • Maintain high-quality engineering principles using statistics and structured problem-solving methods (KT, DOE, DMAIC)
  • Document project findings in structured reports and file invention disclosures for patent applications
  • Travel significantly (primarily domestic, some international) to support various business locations

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Ceramic Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
  • 0-5 years of experience in a Ceramic or Materials Engineering role
  • Deep technical knowledge in ceramic/glass material processing, evaluation, and failure mechanisms
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in developing and executing experiments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building relationships with suppliers and internal customers
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication, including technical report writing and PowerPoint presentations
  • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple project responsibilities simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of refractory and glass materials, including microstructure and chemistry
  • Knowledge of high-temperature material interactions and process engineering basics
  • Expertise in ceramic forming techniques, including dry and wet processing and sintering
  • Experience with project management tools and approaches
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE)
