About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop new anti-corrosion coatings and novel hybrid Interpenetrating Polymer Network (IPN) type coatings.
- Utilize Baytown facilities to fabricate coating samples for assessing corrosion resistance and performance.
- Provide on-site technical support to customers for product development and application process optimization.
- Deliver technical insights and market intelligence to guide new application developments and business strategy.
- Develop novel technology to strengthen the intellectual property portfolio.
- Author technical reports, publications, and promotional materials such as data sheets and brochures.
- Train and mentor less experienced colleagues.
Requirements
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in Chemistry, Engineering, Coatings Science, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of industrial experience formulating high-performance thermoset coatings.
- Strong understanding of thermoset coating chemistries (epoxy, urethane, urea, siloxane, etc.) and formulation principles.
- Knowledge of coating application methods including airless spray, plural component spray, brushing, and rolling.
- Proficiency in statistical experimental design (DOE) and formulation optimization.
- Hands-on laboratory experience and an inclination for lab-based work.
- Knowledge of ASTM, ISO, or AMPP coating test methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hybrid coatings of mixed chemistries, polymeric blends, or IPN.
- Knowledge of ROMP (ring opening metathesis polymerization) and p-DCPD (dicyclopentadiene) chemistry.
- Knowledge of intellectual property development, assessment, and procurement.
