Sr. Counsel, Data Privacy & Technology

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on global data protection laws, including GDPR and other applicable privacy regimes.
• Advise on digital, cybersecurity, and financial services-related technology regulations, including the EU Data Act, DORA, and NIS2.
• Lead the translation of AI regulation, such as the EU AI Act, into practical guidance for development, procurement, and governance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex technology agreements, including cloud, SaaS, software, and data-sharing contracts.
• Lead and mature VFS privacy, data, and AI governance frameworks, including privacy-by-design and AI-by-design initiatives.
• Manage and develop Data Privacy Managers, providing coaching and setting strategic priorities.
• Serve as the primary legal interface with Volvo Group privacy, AI, and digital governance stakeholders.
• Monitor legal developments in emerging technology and translate them into actionable policies and training.

Requirements

• Law degree and qualification to practice law in at least one relevant jurisdiction.
• 8–12+ years of relevant legal experience in privacy, technology, AI, data, or cybersecurity.
• Deep expertise in GDPR and global privacy laws.
• Strong knowledge of the EU AI Act, DORA, NIS2, and the EU Data Act.
• Proven experience working within a global matrix organization or a highly regulated business environment.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, scalable global guidance and governance tools.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes without direct authority.
