About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop various airbags and their integration across the whole product lifetime, from specification and sourcing to manufacturing support and post-SOP maintenance
- Achieve product technical excellence while meeting economical, timing, and quality targets
- Collaborate with design studio, ergonomic, BIW, and interior engineering teams to optimize restraint system packages
- Manage Tier 1 suppliers for engineering development and program timing, serving as the main point of contact for restraints design
- Manage validation plans and test labs for sub-system integration, including supervising test execution and performing test analysis
- Provide expertise on restraint system design to meet vehicle targets regarding performance, cost, weight, and manufacturing
- Support crash tests and vehicle homologation, ensuring parts are supplied with correct pedigrees
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in airbag engineering
- 1 year of specific experience related to Curtain Airbags
- Direct experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers
- Proficiency in CAD for component packaging and simple fixture design
- Deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals, including mechanics of materials, dynamics, and biomechanics
- Knowledge of APQP processes (DVP&R, 8D, DFMEA, DRBFM)
- Experience using GD&T and tolerance stack analysis (ASME or ISO)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of the latest technological advancements in the field of airbags and passive safety
- Experience in program management and testing (crash, airbag deployment, seats, or trims)
- Knowledge of automotive crashworthiness legislation and attributes
- Experience with CAE analysis (e.g., LS-Dyna) for restraint system optimization
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
