About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment and treatment for adult patients with communication and swallowing disorders, primarily within in-patient oncology units
  • Work within a progressive multi-professional team, participating in rounds, meetings, and quality initiatives
  • Act within the professional scope of practice for a speech-language pathologist
  • Prioritize tasks and adapt to changes in clinical needs with short notice
  • Function independently and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Contribute to patient management through collaboration with various healthcare team members

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
  • Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Strong clinical assessment and treatment skills regarding communication and swallowing disorders
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership with the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA)
  • 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Experience assessing and treating General Internal Medicine and Oncology patients
  • Experience in professional education, presentations, and in-services
  • Experience with Surgical, Nephrology, Cardiac, or ICU patient populations
  • Computer literacy and experience with quality indicator monitoring
