About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide assessment and treatment for adult patients with communication and swallowing disorders, primarily within in-patient oncology units
- Work within a progressive multi-professional team, participating in rounds, meetings, and quality initiatives
- Act within the professional scope of practice for a speech-language pathologist
- Prioritize tasks and adapt to changes in clinical needs with short notice
- Function independently and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced, stressful environment
- Contribute to patient management through collaboration with various healthcare team members
Requirements
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
- Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Strong clinical assessment and treatment skills regarding communication and swallowing disorders
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership with the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA)
- 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting
- Experience assessing and treating General Internal Medicine and Oncology patients
- Experience in professional education, presentations, and in-services
- Experience with Surgical, Nephrology, Cardiac, or ICU patient populations
- Computer literacy and experience with quality indicator monitoring
