About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing (dysphagia) abilities for adults
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient goals
- Provide evidence-based intervention for acute care patients, including those with complex neurological conditions
- Participate in interprofessional team rounds, case discussions, and care conferences
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care
- Provide recommendations regarding swallowing safety, including diet texture modifications
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with hospital guidelines and CASLPO standards
- Offer education and professional presentations to colleagues, students, and families
Requirements
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
- Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Understanding of healthcare teams and interprofessional patient management
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting
- Experience in the assessment and treatment of neurosurgery, spine, general internal medicine, and stroke populations
- Experience in professional education, presentations, and conducting in-services
