About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing (dysphagia) abilities for adults
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient goals
  • Provide evidence-based intervention for acute care patients, including those with complex neurological conditions
  • Participate in interprofessional team rounds, case discussions, and care conferences
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care
  • Provide recommendations regarding swallowing safety, including diet texture modifications
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with hospital guidelines and CASLPO standards
  • Offer education and professional presentations to colleagues, students, and families

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
  • Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Understanding of healthcare teams and interprofessional patient management

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of neurosurgery, spine, general internal medicine, and stroke populations
  • Experience in professional education, presentations, and conducting in-services
