Specialist, Software Engineering (AWS Cloud)

Responsibilities

• Monitor and implement updates from AWS and third-party suppliers
• Maintain and enhance Kubernetes-based cloud architecture
• Utilize Python, Java, or C++ to design, code, and modify software
• Support Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions including SSO, Active Directory, or Keycloak
• Assist in the cloud migration of applications
• Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for developers, administrators, and operators
• Ensure consistency across the baseline through version tagging and naming schemes
• Leverage networking principles and security best practices in an AWS cloud environment

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Graduate Degree with 2+ years of experience, or 8+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
• Experience developing and deploying containerized applications using Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, or equivalent
• Expertise in Linux environments, including scripting, configuration, and software deployment
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CDK, OpenTofu, or CloudFormation
• Ability to obtain a High-Risk NOAA Public Trust clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Agile workflow tools and version control (Git, JIRA, Confluence)
• Experience with container observability tools (Prometheus, PromQL, Grafana)
• Experience with Helm charts and Kubernetes package management
• Experience with monitoring and logging solutions (Splunk, CloudWatch)
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate
