About the role

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and installation of driver training programs and safety procedures to reduce accidents and injuries
  • Train and coach new and existing drivers on equipment use, routing practices, and the Smith Training program
  • Administer road tests, truck inspections, and HM 126F/Security training for drivers and branch personnel
  • Conduct audits of drivers, vehicles, and maintenance facilities to ensure DOT and SMS compliance
  • Educate staff on driving culture, incident reporting, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Perform pre-employment interviewing, driver demonstrations, and evaluations
  • Ensure locations maintain proper vehicle maintenance, driver vehicle inspections, and log files

Requirements

  • Must possess a Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record and appropriate auto insurance coverage
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of DOT, OSHA, and DHS rules and regulations
  • Ability to travel 60% - 80% of the time to multiple facilities
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to groups
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Ability to wear required PPE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial or occupational safety or a related discipline
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation
  • 3-5 years of experience in a safety-related capacity, preferably in related industries
  • Experience with SAP or similar software and proficiency in Windows-based environments
