About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee the development and installation of driver training programs and safety procedures to reduce accidents and injuries
- Train and coach new and existing drivers on equipment use, routing practices, and the Smith Training program
- Administer road tests, truck inspections, and HM 126F/Security training for drivers and branch personnel
- Conduct audits of drivers, vehicles, and maintenance facilities to ensure DOT and SMS compliance
- Educate staff on driving culture, incident reporting, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform pre-employment interviewing, driver demonstrations, and evaluations
- Ensure locations maintain proper vehicle maintenance, driver vehicle inspections, and log files
Requirements
- Must possess a Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record and appropriate auto insurance coverage
- Strong knowledge and understanding of DOT, OSHA, and DHS rules and regulations
- Ability to travel 60% - 80% of the time to multiple facilities
- Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to groups
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Ability to wear required PPE
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in industrial or occupational safety or a related discipline
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation
- 3-5 years of experience in a safety-related capacity, preferably in related industries
- Experience with SAP or similar software and proficiency in Windows-based environments
