Special Police Officer

Responsibilities

• Allow only properly ticketed/approved guests into COA and MHPC facilities
• Ensure safety of employees and patrons by preventing theft, assaults, and disorders
• Patrol premises to prevent intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates
• Protect participants at events from overzealous spectators
• Detain individuals based on probable cause for offenses committed in their presence
• Supervise and authorize entrance and departure of employees and visitors
• Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering restricted areas and respond to alarms
• Complete reports of daily activities, irregularities, and property damage
• Inspect and adjust security systems and equipment to detect tampering
• Interact professionally with staff and guests at all times

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• 2+ years of security, law enforcement, military, or life safety experience
• Ability to apply for a DC Special Police Officer License within 5 days of employment
• Ability to acquire and maintain an active DC Special Police Officer License within 2 weeks of hire
• Maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
• Ability to work in various environments including loud noises, strobe lights, and extreme weather
• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Availability to work 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments
