The Nassau County District Attorney's Office investigates and prosecutes violations of state and local criminal statutes occurring within Nassau County. One of the largest district attorney's offices in the country, the office is committed to hiring qualified investigators and support staff to stay ahead of criminal behavior.
Responsibilities
- Perform investigative work collecting and assisting in the preparation of evidence for Grand Jury presentation
- Conduct routine surveillance of suspected persons and places
- Contact informants and develop sources of information
- Conduct routine undercover work, raids, interrogation of witnesses, execution of warrants, and arrests
- Interview witnesses and subjects
- Use investigative apparatus such as electronic or photographic equipment
- Testify in court proceedings
Requirements
- High school graduation
- Ten years of satisfactory experience in criminal investigation work as a sworn police officer in the State of New York
- Five years of exclusive experience in the specialized field of investigation of index crimes
- Extensive knowledge of homicide, Medicaid fraud, civil forfeiture, collision investigation, or law enforcement crimes analysis
- Considerable knowledge of the basic rules of evidence
- Knowledge of applicable New York State statutes and court decisions
- Skill in the use and care of firearms and unarmed defense
- Ability to prepare detailed reports
