Special Education Teacher

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the ARD Committee process.
• Implement lesson plans and instructional strategies that accommodate the individual needs and learning styles of students.
• Modify curricula in cooperation with classroom teachers to support students included in general education classes.
• Conduct assessments of student learning and maintain accurate documentation of IEP implementation and student progress.
• Manage student behavior and administer discipline, including crisis intervention and physical restraint when required by the IEP.
• Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
• Maintain open lines of communication with parents and provide regular feedback on student achievement.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to the physical, social, and emotional development of all students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
• Proven knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
• Expertise in IEP goal setting and implementation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
• Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and manage student behavior effectively.
• Physical ability to lift/position students, assist non-ambulatory students, and remain mobile (standing, bending, kneeling) throughout the workday.
