Special Education Instructor

Responsibilities

• Provide special instruction to students in compliance with school-system, program, state, and federal regulations
• Implement instructional, therapeutic, and skill development programs for differentiated learning levels
• Conduct formal and informal student assessments
• Plan and use instructional strategies aligned with Individual Education Plans (IEP)
• Supervise staff members assisting with students
• Maintain open communication with students, therapists, school district personnel, and parents
• Complete required documentation including grades, attendance, and student progress notes
• Monitor progress of students with disabilities and assess the need for accommodation changes
• Maintain classroom discipline and reinforce employability skills
• Create individualized plans to meet student needs and TABE requirements

Requirements

• University degree in special education
• Current state certification as a special education teacher
• Minimum one year of experience working with children with disabilities (ages 16-24)
• Puerto Law 300 Certification
• Puerto Rico driver's license and good driving record
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to use and integrate educational technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
• Knowledge of Unique Learning curriculum
• Bilingualism
