Space Systems Engineer (Production)

Responsibilities

• Help design and develop the next-generation of HEO’s space cameras
• Perform hands-on mechanical and optical assembly of space cameras in a lab environment
• Develop and refine assembly procedures, jigs, and alignment workflows
• Implement design-for-manufacture (DFM) best practices
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues during prototyping and early production builds
• Maintain configuration control and documentation for production hardware
• Conduct incoming and in-process part inspection and manage supplier quality
• Assist payload-level test campaigns including vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, and thermal vacuum testing
• Assist in safe packaging, transport, and export of flight and engineering hardware

Requirements

• 2+ years experience in production and testing of complex hardware systems (space, aerospace, or defence preferred)
• Experience working with external manufacturing partners and test houses
• Understanding of mechanical tolerancing, inspection tools, materials, and DFM principles
• Proficiency in Fusion 360 or similar CAD software
• Experience managing environmental test campaigns
• Experience with computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) for CNC machining
• Australian citizenship or Permanent Residency required

Preferred Qualifications

• Python proficiency
• Experience with optical payload integration and alignment techniques
• Knowledge of hardware export and logistics for spaceflight or defense systems
