Software Engineering Manager

About the Company

Boom is on a mission to level the playing field for the 110+ million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and rewarding. Boom is building a suite of rental financial services for renters and property managers, including tenant screening, rent payment reporting, and integrations with the largest property management systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 4-8 engineers on a product engineering team
• Write and ship features alongside your team as a player-coach
• Own end-to-end delivery including planning, prioritization, and scope tradeoffs
• Run design reviews, code review standards, standups, and incident response
• Grow engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and career conversations
• Lead hiring for your team to raise the bar across the organization

Requirements

• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 2+ years of direct people management experience
• Strong technical foundation in backend-leaning full stack development
• Proficiency with Ruby (Grape), React/Next.js, and TypeScript
• Experience with third-party APIs, AWS, and Terraform
• Proficiency using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code) to ship code
• Strong communication skills and ability to navigate ambiguity

• Experience in early-stage, fast-paced environments
• Empathy for low-to-moderate-income renters
