At Variance, we are teaching machines to make the hardest judgement calls at scale. We build AI agents for the high-precision gray-area of risk investigations, fraud, and identity reviews. We are a small, talent-dense team in San Francisco tackling problems that touch billions of events and entities for Fortune 500s and global marketplaces.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship features end-to-end with rapid iteration cycles
• Work across the full stack to turn ambiguous problems into reliable product experiences
• Partner directly with founders on massive-scale, frontier problems
• Scale the product into new industries through fast pilots and live demos
• Design systems where AI must decide in real time, balancing precision, speed, and user trust
• Improve the product through rapid feedback and experimentation

Requirements

• 1-3 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong focus on craftsmanship and high-quality product building
• Proficiency with React, Next.js, TypeScript, MySQL, or ClickHouse (or strong fundamentals in similar technologies)
• Ability to own features end-to-end from backend systems to polished UI
• Comfort working in fast-moving environments with high responsibility
