Software Engineer, Localization

Responsibilities

• Build and scale OpenAI’s localization, content, and experimentation platforms used across all product teams.
• Develop AI-powered translation pipelines combined with human-in-the-loop review workflows.
• Design systems that reliably deliver localized product content across web and mobile applications.
• Build and maintain internationalization libraries that handle numbers, currencies, dates, and pluralization across locales.
• Develop developer tooling and internal platforms that simplify localization and internationalization workflows.
• Partner with product teams to ensure the international readiness of new features.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering experience building backend or full-stack systems.
• Proficiency with Java, React, and MySQL.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure patterns, including object storage, containerized services, and Kubernetes.
• Interest in combining AI systems with human workflows to improve product quality.
• A passion for building platforms and internal tools used by multiple engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with or an appreciation for open-source software and developer tooling.
• Multilingual proficiency.
• Deep appreciation for cultural and linguistic differences across global regions.
