Software Engineer III

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evolve the Trust Service API end-to-end, from contract design to production deployment
• Own the trust inspection data model and REST API contracts, ensuring backwards compatibility and proper versioning
• Ensure correctness, reliability, and performance of high-throughput Java backend services under concurrent load
• Write and review complex SQL queries and manage schema migrations within PostgreSQL
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Architecture, and Platform teams to surface technical risks and define specifications

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 4+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on backend service engineering
• Strong experience in Java or other JVM languages
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor)
• Deep comfort with relational databases, complex SQL queries, and query plan reasoning
• Experience designing and versioning REST APIs backed by OpenAPI specifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modern Java (21+) features such as records, sealed interfaces, and pattern matching
• Familiarity with graph or highly relational data models and traversal patterns
• Understanding of identity standards such as NIST 800-63-3, OAuth2, or OpenID Connect
• Experience in a startup or high-growth environment with a strong bias toward ownership
• Proven track record of shipping well-tested, production-quality backend features with careful attention to failure modes
