Software Engineer, Frontier Systems - Power Management

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement system-level software solutions to optimize power usage in large-scale supercomputers.
• Build automation to monitor power consumption patterns and design algorithms to stabilize fluctuations.
• Design tools for real-time monitoring, detection, and remediation of power-related hardware and system faults.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to translate complex electrical system requirements into code.
• Drive the development of power throttling mechanisms at the IT system level to adjust usage based on workload demands.
• Work with hardware design teams to integrate power control requirements into IT hardware design.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience focusing on large-scale, system-level challenges.
• Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with automation or shell scripting.
• Experience with distributed systems for aggregating and analyzing streaming data.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering concepts such as digital signal processing, power systems, or Fast Fourier Transforms.
• Strong analytical skills with experience using SQL, PromQL, or Pandas to analyze noisy data.
• Ability to work effectively with both hardware and software teams to solve multidisciplinary problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep expertise with the power characteristics of synchronous workloads in supercomputing or model training environments.
• Knowledge of power control requirements in IT hardware design.
• Working knowledge of control system fundamentals and physical system responses to control strategies.
