Software Engineer, Distributed Systems

Responsibilities

• Own detection and prevention systems for fraud, abuse, spam, and malicious content
• Design and build scalable trust infrastructure including rate limiting, content scanning, and anomaly detection
• Architect distributed systems, APIs, and high-volume event pipelines
• Help define and evolve core data models and storage systems for trust and safety
• Build tools to empower internal support teams to investigate suspicious activity
• Leverage AI/LLM-based detection to stay ahead of AI-generated abuse
• Build automated triage and investigation workflows
• Investigate and resolve complex security incidents
• Partner with engineering and product to balance security with user experience
• Shape Gamma's long-term trust and safety strategy and technical roadmap

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable, high-traffic production systems
• Strong systems thinking and experience building highly available web APIs
• Proficiency in backend technologies such as Node.js or Python
• Experience with databases like PostgreSQL and Redis
• Experience with event streaming systems like Redis or Kafka
• Hands-on experience implementing rate limiting, content detection, or fraud prevention
• Track record of shipping high-quality, complex applications under tight timelines
• Product-minded approach to technical decisions
• Passion for security and user protection

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI/LLMs for content moderation
• Familiarity with TypeScript, Prisma, Apollo GraphQL, or AWS
• Experience building AI-assisted moderation pipelines
• Familiarity with the evolving AI threat landscape
• Experience with real-time collaboration systems
