Software Engineer, Developer Experience

Cape is America’s privacy-first mobile carrier. Founded in 2022, Cape is building a secure network from the ground up to provide privacy and security features that no other carrier can offer, serving consumers, businesses, and government agencies.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain internal tooling, scripts, and SDKs for project scaffolding, local dev setup, and testing utilities
• Own the local development environment, including containerized setups, secrets management, and service dependencies
• Design infrastructure to enable rapid and confident deployment from code to artifact
• Drive reliability improvements to eliminate flaky tests, slow pipelines, and environment drift
• Own the AI-assisted development strategy, integrating and configuring AI coding tools and building context systems like RAG
• Measure the productivity impact of AI tooling through adoption and quality metrics
• Identify and eliminate patterns of friction across the engineering organization
• Contribute to engineering standards for testing, code review, and deployment

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience in internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure
• Fluency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Python, TypeScript, or Rust also welcome)
• Hands-on experience optimizing CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Buildkite, Bazel, etc.)
• Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Proven track record of building solutions to reduce developer friction
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building developer platforms in security-constrained environments (FedRAMP, DISA STIGs)
• Familiarity with software supply chain security (Sigstore, Cosign, SBOM)
• Experience at a high-growth startup
• Background in observability tooling (distributed tracing, metrics pipelines)
• Experience integrating AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor)
• Active U.S. security clearance or eligibility to obtain one
