Software Engineer - Data & Sensors

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain device software across the full episode lifecycle including session initialization and sensor stream management
• Integrate and synchronize multi-modal sensor streams such as cameras, 6-DOF pose trackers, and encoders
• Define data contracts between UMI devices and AI teams including stream formats and metadata schemas
• Build data validation tooling to detect frame drops, timing jitter, and sensor faults
• Own operator-facing device software for session controls and status feedback
• Support field data collection and debug hardware integration failures like driver issues or bus bandwidth saturation

Requirements

• Experience in embedded or device-level software in a robotics or sensing context
• Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for real-time sensor drivers and data pipelines
• Solid understanding of multi-modal sensor synchronization, timestamps, and hardware triggers
• Familiarity with camera pipelines and data timing accuracy
• Strong focus on data quality and dataset hygiene
• Proven ability to debug on real hardware using logs and profilers

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with 6-DOF pose tracking systems (VIO, optical trackers)
• Familiarity with ML training data formats
• Exposure to operator-facing tooling for data collection
• Experience scaling device software from prototypes to field-deployed units
