Software Engineer, ChatGPT Infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve infrastructure platforms used by many engineers and services
• Translate real-world constraints into clean abstractions including simple APIs and safe defaults
• Drive improvements in reliability and performance through principled design and measurement
• Partner with engineering and product teams to identify systemic pain points and develop reusable solutions
• Own outcomes end-to-end from design and implementation to rollout and operational maturity

Requirements

• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production
• Strong fundamentals in systems design including caching, consistency, and queueing
• Ability to reason about performance, latency distributions, and bottlenecks
• Track record of building platforms or shared infrastructure that improves team velocity
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for driving cross-team execution

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing paved roads or golden paths such as frameworks and self-serve tooling
• Deep understanding of reliability techniques like circuit breakers and load shedding
• Experience building systems for safe iteration and progressive delivery
• Strong instincts for stable and evolvable API and contract design
