Software Engineer, Backend, Level 5

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate critical, scalable backend services including user identity, friend graph, and core persistence layers
• Work across teams to evaluate trade-offs and deliver solutions for innovative products
• Advocate for best practices regarding availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management
• Utilize AI tools and high-velocity engineering workflows to ship scalable services while maintaining rigorous standards for security and correctness
• Participate in incident investigation and resolution to ensure system reliability

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field (Computer Science or equivalent)
• 6+ years of post-Bachelor's software development experience
• Proven experience with distributed systems
• Experience operating highly-available systems at significant scale
• Ability to independently execute medium-sized features from conception to completion

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python
• Experience with NoSQL solutions, Memcache, or Redis
• Experience with Kubernetes or cloud services (Google Cloud/AWS)
• Expertise in large-scale microservices, infrastructure design, or networking
