Software Engineer, Backend, Level 4

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate critical, scalable backend services including user identity, friend graph, and core persistence layers
• Work across teams to evaluate product requirements and trade-offs to deliver innovative solutions
• Evaluate, test, and debug work to ensure high quality and production readiness
• Advocate for best practices regarding availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management
• Utilize AI tools and high-velocity engineering workflows to design and ship services while maintaining rigorous standards for security and correctness

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field (Computer Science or equivalent)
• 2+ years of post-Bachelor's software development experience (or Master's + 1 year, or PhD)
• Proven experience working with distributed systems and backend services
• Ability to independently execute medium-sized features and manage the full development lifecycle
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to participate in incident or hotfix investigations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Java, C++, and/or Python
• Experience with NoSQL solutions, Memcache/Redis, or Kubernetes
• Experience with cloud computing and storage systems (Google Cloud or AWS)
• Knowledge of large-scale microservices, networking, or machine learning tools
