About the Company

Formal is a data security platform designed to help teams understand and control their data on autopilot. We are building a modern protocol-aware reverse-proxy for datastores and APIs, trusted by companies like Ramp, Gusto, and Notion. Formal is backed by Thrive Capital and Y Combinator.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop a high performance data platform capable of handling large volumes of data in real-time
• Build new product features from research and implementation through to maintenance
• Improve performance and reliability of new and existing features
• Lead high-impact initiatives
• Design scalable services to support growing traffic

Requirements

• Experience building data-intensive software platforms
• Strong knowledge of Golang and its ecosystem
• Experience with streaming data processing frameworks like Apache Kafka or Google Pub/Sub
• Experience debugging and optimizing complex production systems
• Experience with DBs, OS, networking, or systems-level environments
• Experience with containerization (Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Strong problem-solving and production debugging skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments
• Experience with Temporal or Render
• Extensive knowledge of datastore protocols such as Postgres, S3, or Kafka
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure or GCP
