Smart Factory Sales Engineer

Responsibilities

• Partner with sales teams to evaluate customer RFQs, assess technical feasibility, and develop competitive proposals
• Translate customer specifications and drawings into Smart Factory solutions, identifying Design for Sheet Metal fabrication concerns
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, tooling, and overhead
• Conduct on-site and virtual customer meetings to present solutions and address engineering questions during the pre-sale phase
• Collaborate with production, quality, and supply chain teams to validate lead times and capacity commitments
• Review and redline customer contracts and technical specifications to ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities
• Support order handoff to engineering and production teams to ensure a smooth transition from sale to fulfillment
• Maintain and update quoting tools, pricing templates, and technical documentation

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment, including sales engineering or estimating
• Proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
• Hands-on knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, punching, forming, bending, welding, and painting
• Strong cost estimating and quoting experience
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for various audiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP)
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles
• Prior experience in a contract manufacturing or job-shop environment
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines
