Site Reliability Engineer - Ceph Storage

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, performance, scalability, and capacity of large-scale production Ceph environments supporting object, block, and file storage workloads (RADOS, RGW, RBD, CephFS).
• Diagnose and resolve complex distributed systems issues including recovery/backfill events, OSD instability, PG imbalance, storage latency, and RGW performance bottlenecks.
• Design and build automation using Python, Shell, SaltStack, and Ansible to reduce operational toil and improve platform resilience at scale.
• Define and improve observability for the storage platform through SLIs, SLOs, PromQL, LogQL, Grafana dashboards, and proactive alerting strategies.
• Lead storage lifecycle initiatives including cluster expansions, hardware refreshes, software upgrades, and large-scale migration projects.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience operating large-scale Linux infrastructure.
• 2+ years of hands-on Ceph administration (OSD, MON, MDS, RGW, CRUSH map management, and pool design).
• Strong expertise in distributed systems and storage architecture.
• Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for operational automation.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or SaltStack.
• Proven incident response expertise, including production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Ceph expertise in RGW Multisite, CephFS, RBD Mirroring, or erasure coding.
• Experience integrating storage with OpenStack or Kubernetes (CSI, Rook).
• Familiarity with modern observability stacks including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, and Grafana.
• Experience executing petabyte-scale storage migrations and hardware lifecycle management.
