About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, model, and analyze novel fiber-chip coupling concepts for large-scale quantum computing systems
- Own coupling device development across the full lifecycle including simulation, layout, and experiment design
- Contribute to photonic tapeouts through hands-on layout and DOE definition
- Collaborate with test engineers to plan and execute automated, high-volume measurements
- Analyze measurement data to identify performance trends and optimization opportunities
- Work with foundry, packaging, and test teams to validate and improve fiber-chip coupling performance
Requirements
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
- ~5 years of relevant industrial or academic research experience in integrated photonics
- Expertise in fiber-chip coupling concepts and optical packaging
- Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas)
- Experience with photonic/electromagnetic simulation tools like Lumerical or Tidy3D
- Experience with photonic layout tools such as IPKISS or gdsfactory
- Hands-on experience with photonic packaging and assembly
- Familiarity with integrated photonics manufacturing processes
