Silicon Photonics Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and analyze novel fiber-chip coupling concepts for large-scale quantum computing systems
• Own coupling device development across the full lifecycle including simulation, layout, and experiment design
• Contribute to photonic tapeouts through hands-on layout and DOE definition
• Collaborate with test engineers to plan and execute automated, high-volume measurements
• Analyze measurement data to identify performance trends and optimization opportunities
• Work with foundry, packaging, and test teams to validate and improve fiber-chip coupling performance

Requirements

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
• ~5 years of relevant industrial or academic research experience in integrated photonics
• Expertise in fiber-chip coupling concepts and optical packaging
• Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas)
• Experience with photonic/electromagnetic simulation tools like Lumerical or Tidy3D
• Experience with photonic layout tools such as IPKISS or gdsfactory
• Hands-on experience with photonic packaging and assembly
• Familiarity with integrated photonics manufacturing processes
