Shunt Operator

Responsibilities

• Receive metal and transport it to appropriate locations
• Unload trucks and verify material quality
• Deliver car bodies and ferrous materials to the shredder loading area
• Transport bins containing non-ferrous materials
• Perform material identification tests using magnets or appropriate products
• Assess cuts of material that are not saleable
• Take physical inventory counts of material in stock
• Record material weights upon arrival and departure
• Perform routine machine maintenance including greasing and washing

Requirements

• Ability to drive and operate a heavy manual transmission truck
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
• At least one year of experience in a similar position
• Strong awareness of occupational health and safety
• Good priority management and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingualism is considered an asset
