About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist legal advice and commercial support to Shell Trading and Supply's Shipping, Maritime, and freight trading businesses.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and transactions related to shipping and chartering.
- Collaborate with business and functional teams to assess and manage legal risks associated with trading operations.
- Advise on both contentious and non-contentious matters, including charterparties, bills of lading, and cargo claims.
- Support strategic projects such as fleet renewals, decarbonisation, and shipping technology initiatives.
- Operate effectively within a fast-paced, highly visible trading environment while adapting to evolving industry regulations.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in a common law jurisdiction.
- Advanced experience in supporting shipping and maritime commercial activities.
- Deep understanding of charterparties, bills of lading, cargo claims, demurrage, and vessel management agreements.
- Experience with international civil or common law contracts and knowledge of physical commodity trading.
- Strong drafting, negotiating, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Digital fluency and AI-readiness, with the ability to use digital tools to enhance legal support efficiency.
- Ability to work with high levels of autonomy and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders.
