About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist legal advice and commercial support to Shell Trading and Supply's Shipping, Maritime, and freight trading businesses.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and transactions related to shipping and chartering.
  • Collaborate with business and functional teams to assess and manage legal risks associated with trading operations.
  • Advise on both contentious and non-contentious matters, including cargo claims, demurrage, and vessel management.
  • Support strategic projects such as fleet renewals, decarbonization, and shipping technology initiatives.
  • Partner with senior management to provide legal guidance on complex maritime and freight trading transactions.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience in supporting shipping and maritime commercial activities.
  • Deep understanding of maritime law, including charterparties, bills of lading, cargo claims, and demurrage.
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in a common law jurisdiction.
  • Experience with international civil or common law contracts and physical commodity trading.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills with the ability to provide creative legal solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure trading environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
