Sheriff Corrections Deputy (Lateral Entry)

Responsibilities

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and photograph incoming prisoners
• Maintain jail security through inmate observation, pat searches, strip searches, and cell searches
• Ensure inmates have access to basic hygiene and welfare needs
• Prepare and deliver prisoners to court, medical facilities, and other required locations
• Manage inmate classification, housing, and the distribution of meals
• Monitor video and audio surveillance equipment and other job-related technology
• Respond to and assist with disturbances, medical crises, escapes, and natural disasters
• Prepare detailed reports, memos, logbook entries, and unit rosters using computer systems
• Administer prescribed medications and advise superiors when medical attention is necessary

Requirements

• 12 months of continuous, full-time corrections experience within a public law enforcement agency during the last five years
• Successful completion of a probationary period in a previous role
• Completion of the Washington State CJTC Corrections Officer Academy or an approved equivalency
• United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident status
• Valid driver's license at the time of employment
• Ability to pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
• Ability to read and write the English language
• No prior felony convictions and no recent or excessive drug usage history
• Ability to perform essential mental and physical demands of the position
