SHEQ Officer

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), client site rules, and Epiroc SHEQ standards
• Maintain legal appointment as MHSA 2.17.1 Safety Officer
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across workshops, warehouses, and mobile equipment
• Facilitate safety inductions, training, and awareness programmes
• Capture and analyse safety indicators (PTOs, VFLs, and HPHs) using leading and lagging metrics
• Identify hazards, implement risk controls, and maintain comprehensive safety files
• Develop and test emergency response plans and conduct regular drills
• Assist with incident investigations and compile detailed safety reports
• Engage employees to promote safe behaviour and exercise authority to stop unsafe work

Requirements

• National Diploma in Safety Management, NEBOSH International Diploma, or equivalent recognised qualification
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a similar safety role
• Proven experience within the mining industry (open-cast or contractor environments preferred)
• Solid working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)
• Strong technical background and understanding of mining operations
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills
• A Trade Test (Mechanical, Electrical, or Diesel) is considered advantageous
