Shelter Worker

Responsibilities

• Monitor the environment and residents to ensure safety and security through regular status checks and room searches
• Develop and implement case management for assigned residents, including goal setting and discharge planning
• Maintain accurate documentation, including incident logs and required funder reports
• Perform intake and discharge procedures for clients
• Intervene in crisis situations and provide emotional support and advocacy
• Coordinate and facilitate resident programming and community check-ins
• Liaise with police, community agencies, families, and other staff members to support resident needs

Requirements

• Social services Diploma, related Diploma, or Degree
• Completion of Addictions Counselling Courses
• Minimum of one year of frontline social service experience
• Ability to undergo successful background checks, including the Salvation Army Abuse Registry
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment involving exposure to drugs, alcohol, and difficult interpersonal situations
