About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care and support to individuals experiencing homelessness at the Nanaimo New Hope Centre.
- Monitor facility access, maintain logbooks, and complete incident reports to ensure a safe environment.
- De-escalate conflicts and mediate disputes among clients to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
- Perform security checks, including bed checks and property inspections, in accordance with shelter policies.
- Manage client medication and distribute essential supplies such as bedding and hygiene items.
- Collaborate with case managers, kitchen staff, and external agencies like first responders to ensure holistic care.
- Maintain accurate client data, including intake information, financial records, and occupancy statistics.
Requirements
- High School Graduation or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in mental health or addictions, including frontline social service work.
- Clear TB Skin Test.
- Criminal record clearance through the BC Criminal Records Review Program.
- Knowledge of available community resources in Nanaimo.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and handle demanding circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or Mental Health & Addictions.
- Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Valid WHMIS certificate.
