Shelter Worker

Responsibilities

• Clean shelter rooms, washrooms, kitchens, lounges, and common areas
• Pack client belongings and prepare beds and rooms for new residents
• Monitor the environment and residents to ensure safety, security, and adherence to policies
• Provide laundry services for the shelter and its clients
• Ensure safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
• Act as a positive role model by developing professional relationships that promote dignity and respect
• Assist with cooking, light food preparation, and serving clients at mealtimes
• Conduct required shift change procedures and maintain shelter logs and documentation
• Maintain entries in the HFIS database
• Provide orientation to new clients and respond to emergency issues as a team member

Requirements

• Certificate in First Aid and CPR Training
• Non-Violent Crises Intervention Training
• Naloxone Training
• Ability to relate to and engage with marginalized people
• Ability and willingness to undergo successful background checks, including the Salvation Army Abuse Registry
