Shelter Worker

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors by monitoring activities and security cameras
• Maintain accurate daily records, including logbooks and occurrence reports
• Support client care by providing personal, practical, and morale support
• Assist with client admissions, orientations, and enforcement of shelter policies and rules
• Coordinate with external agencies such as police, welfare, or parole officers when necessary
• Perform security checks of property and grounds and conduct room or personal searches as required
• Manage minor financial tasks, such as handling room rentals or meal tickets
• Assist with basic tasks including medication recording, meal preparation, or acting as a receptionist

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Completion of Addictions Counselling courses (up to 6 months)
• 3 to 12 months of prior experience in frontline social services
• Current First Aid/CPR certification
• Non-violent crisis intervention training
• Medication training
• Ability to pass a Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) and other background screenings
