About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide a positive living environment for shelter clients by promoting independence and self-help
- Meet clients' day-to-day basic needs and provide support, assistance, and referrals
- Perform clerical duties including client documentation, computer entries, and log maintenance
- Greet and orient new clients admitted during the shift
- Enforce agency rules and expectations consistently in accordance with policies and procedures
- Maintain the upkeep and tidiness of supplies such as toiletries, linens, and files
- Follow all safety and security procedures, including fire safety and regular floor rounds
- Participate in staff meetings, case management reviews, and ongoing professional development
Requirements
- Two-year College Diploma or University Degree in human or social services
- Experience working with diverse populations, including those facing mental health and addiction challenges
- First Aid/CPR certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (or willingness to acquire)
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector background check
- Clearance from a two-step Tuberculosis Skin Test
- Strong computer and clerical skills, including database navigation and email management
- Understanding of Housing First philosophy and social/economic barriers within the shelter system
