Shelter Attendant

Responsibilities

• Monitor the facility by making regular rounds to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment
• Identify and address hazardous situations and respond to emergencies or drills
• Maintain facility cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, and handling laundry
• Manage food services by assisting with meal preparation, serving meals, and maintaining pantry organization
• Inventory supplies and furnishings, noting items that need to be reordered
• Maintain participant sign-in/out sheets and document incidents or behavioral concerns in daily logs
• Act as a point of contact for volunteers and guests, providing orientations and tours
• Handle disputes between participants in a professional and respectful manner to diffuse tension
• Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, updating rosters, and photocopying

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience working with low-income or homeless populations
• Ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe certification
• Availability to work swing shifts (3:30 PM–11:30 PM), graveyard shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Access to reliable personal transportation
• Successful completion of a criminal background check
• TB test clearance
