Sergeant

Responsibilities

• Supervise Officers, Corporals, and specialized unit staff during assigned shifts
• Coordinate daily operations, including scheduling staff and making assignments
• Act as the first-line supervisor for all patrol functions and overtime details
• Oversee criminal investigations, witness interviews, evidence processing, and arrests
• Review and edit officer reports to ensure accuracy and timely filing
• Evaluate staff performance through coaching, feedback, and formal evaluations
• Conduct regular inspections of officer equipment and uniforms
• Assist officers with major calls or complex, high-stress situations

Requirements

• 5-7 years of law enforcement experience
• 2 years of experience in a supervisory capacity
• Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Valid Louisiana driver’s license and a clean driving record
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to walk, run, stand for long periods, and lift over 80 pounds
• Ability to pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree
• Previous supervisory experience in a university setting
