Sergeant

Responsibilities

• Supervise uniformed Public Safety personnel and contract guard staff across campus locations.
• Manage access control, foot and mobile patrols, and order maintenance at special events.
• Respond to emergency situations using a computer-aided dispatch platform and direct responding officers.
• Coordinate activities via dispatch systems, including operating alarm systems and serving as a radio dispatcher.
• Train security staff to respond to security, medical, and fire emergencies.
• Prepare incident reports, review subordinate paperwork, and maintain accurate logs and records.
• Perform patrol duties on foot, in an automobile, or on a bicycle as required.
• Maintain and safeguard essential departmental equipment and electronic systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of related experience in law enforcement, military, or security.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Valid NYS Guard License.
• NYS Dept. of State 8-hour mandated certificate of training.
• Ability to engage in strenuous physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing for long periods.
• Ability to work various shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Educational accomplishments beyond a high school diploma.
• Working knowledge of computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
