Senior/Staff Backend Engineer, Applied AI

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale AI-powered backend systems for document extraction, entity resolution, retrieval, and structured data generation
• Design resilient pipelines, queues, orchestration layers, and failure-handling mechanisms for production AI workflows
• Own data modeling and backend design decisions across PostgreSQL and related storage systems
• Establish observability, evaluation, and debugging standards for AI systems
• Improve platform reliability and developer velocity through better abstractions and tooling
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design feedback, and mentorship

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend or full-stack software engineering experience
• Deep experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
• Proven experience building products with LLMs (agent architectures, RAG, or extraction pipelines)
• Strong understanding of concurrency, queuing, and data pipeline design
• Ability to lead complex backend and applied AI initiatives
• Pragmatic approach to shipping working systems over research prototypes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Inngest, Temporal, or Step Functions
• Experience with OCR, document intelligence, or financial/legal data extraction
• Experience designing evaluation and guardrail systems for LLM workflows
• Early-stage startup experience
• Bachelor's degree
