Senior/Principal R&D Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical interface between the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) and Sandia National Laboratories to coordinate program planning and integration.
• Lead and facilitate technical work across systems engineering domains, including architecture, design, requirements development, and test/qualification activities.
• Conduct trade studies, gap analyses, and critical analysis of test data to inform high-level program decisions.
• Actively participate in international working groups and produce high-quality technical deliverables for UK and US audiences.
• Collaborate with diverse partners including Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lockheed Martin Space, the Navy, and the NNSA to drive program success.
• Assist in developing cost estimates and forecasts related to UK contracts to support budget planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
• Five (5) years of directly relevant experience in systems engineering or a related field.
• Active DOE Q clearance or an equivalent active U.S. government security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
• Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM, and travel approximately 25% (including international travel).

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field involving independent research.
• Experience working with the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) or Nuclear Deterrence (ND) systems organizations.
• Proven expertise in engineering design, qualification, production, or modeling/simulation projects.
• Strong ability to negotiate competing requirements and manage complex, multidisciplinary technical projects.
